Spanish

¡Hola! I am so excited to be returning to New West as the 6th and 7th grade Spanish teacher. I had the pleasure of working with our New West Charter Middle School students as of the second semester of the 2022/2023 academic year.

My path to becoming a Spanish teacher was born from having had the opportunity to live in Madrid, Spain. Having graduated U.C.Irvine with a B.A. in English, Spanish continued to be my passion, so I decided to go to Spain to teach English – and ended up staying for nine years! It was a life-changing experience, and I truly hope to inspire a love of travel as well as providing my students with a solid base of the language itself. When I returned from Spain, I continued to take classes in Spanish, and began teaching Spanish in high school. I have taught at Thurgood Marshall Academic High School in San Francisco, Birmingham High School in Van Nuys, and here at New West Charter High School as well.

I do believe that the study of a foreign language can be enjoyable throughout one’s life - and I hope it starts here! We will start speaking right away, yet also emphasizing the skills of listening, reading, and writing. I look forward to meeting the new 6th and 7th graders and I am very excited to see my returning students. ¡Hasta pronto!
