Cedar Hofstetter
8th Grade Math
Hello! I am Cedar Hofstetter, and I am the 8th-grade math teacher. I am excited to be spending my first year solo teaching here at New West!
I am a California State University, Fullerton alumnus, where I received both my Bachelor's in Mathematics (Teaching Mathematics) and Single Subject Mathematics credential. While at CSUF, I worked on Project META: Mathematics Equity through Teaching Actively working with professors on implementing equity-minded and active learning strategies in courses that I have brought into my own class.
Education and working with kids have been a constant throughout my life. I have worked with a variety of students from elementary school all the way to high school. I did my student teaching at Santa Fe High School teaching an Algebra I credit recovery course and two Geometry classes with the support of my amazing mentor teachers.
Frequently, math is treated as a lecture-focused independent subject, but that's a myth. Students are shown to learn better when they have the support of their peers and are discussing the content rather than just listening to it. I plan to incorporate plenty of collaboration and support structures to help my students succeed and develop a strong basis for math to support them as they enter high school.
