My name is Roger Rivera and I am excited to join the New West community as the new School Counselor.
A few things about me: I received my bachelor’s degree at the University of California Santa Cruz majoring in Politics, Latin American Latino Studies, and minoring in Education. In addition, I received my master’s in Clinical and School Counseling at Loyola Marymount University.
Prior to coming to New West, I developed a passion for supporting students to ensure that we are fostering critically-minded leaders. I had the opportunity to develop various youth programs in the non-profit field that emphasized leadership and youth development. In addition, I also spent time as a high school college counselor supporting students through their educational and professional goals.
In my free time, I enjoy hiking throughout Southern California and spending time in the outdoors. Also, I enjoy gardening and eating spicy food.
I look forward to ensuring that we are creating a community that emphasizes on supporting the whole student, where a student’s mental and physical health are nurtured. It is an honor to be a part of the New West team and I look forward to a meaningful school year.
