Algebra II College Prep
Honors Algebra II

My name is Rafaelito Alvarez and I am happy to join New West as the new math teacher. This year I will be teaching Algebra II and Algebra II Honors.

I was born in Hollywood and raised in East Los Angeles where I attended Garfield High School before moving to Bakersfield in my senior year. I graduated from West High School with honors and then earned a degree in Statistics from the University of California, Los Angeles.

While attending UCLA, I used my knowledge of math to manage a local business and then led a high school program at the American College of Healthcare and Technology (A-Technical College), which helped over 100 students improve their math skills and learn to apply them in the "real world". My work with teens inspired me to become a full-time teacher, so I earned a credential from California State University, Los Angeles, and am excited to begin the important work of helping New West's students prepare to pursue their own college and career goals. I'm bilingual (Spanish) and ready to do whatever it takes to help students of all backgrounds succeed.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with loved ones, doing Crossfit, playing video games (especially FIFA), and taking care of my chihuahua (Spikey).
