Michelle Wu

Resource Specialist

Hello, my name is Michelle Wu, and I am thrilled to join the New West Charter School family as the 7th Grade Resource teacher.

I have nine years of special education teaching experience to students with mild-to-moderate or moderate-to-severe needs in public schools –– Los Angeles Unified School District, Torrance, Palos Verdes, and Manhattan Beach school districts –– along with non-public school organizations serving students of Torrance, Downey, and Long Beach.

I earned a master's degree in special education at National University in 2013. Before and during my graduate degree program, I worked as a Special Education Assistant for nine years in the Manhattan Beach School District. I earned my undergraduate degree in music education from the University of Nebraska, Omaha.

Before my graduate degree and work experience in special education, I was a full-time mom and taught piano lessons part-time. Some of my students had learning challenges, and music was valuable in how they expressed themselves. That musical experience combined with service as a special education assistant inspired me to make a difference and pursue it as a career.

I look forward to this year at New West helping students develop their academic and study skills, to reach their potential, and achieve their goals.
