Ms. Kieana Curtiss is a Long Beach native with a great passion for teaching and creative writing. She earned her B.A. in English Literature from Cal State Dominguez Hills and is near completion of her Masters Degree program in Special Education.
Having served two years as the 11-12th grade Resource Specialist at NWC, she is eager to serve at the middle school level as the new 6-7th Resource Specialist. What Ms. Curtiss enjoys most about this role is her ability to inspire and connect with students in a way that fosters their academic achievement and motivation to succeed.
Ms. Curtiss has a heightened awareness of the unique challenges students have faced over the past year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She understands that her students may have feelings of anxiety and/or fear as they return to school and wants to do her best to help her students navigate these complicated emotions. With the understanding that learning may be gradual as we transition back to campus, she wants to remind her students that what matters most is progress, not perfection. Ms. Curtiss will work diligently to provide a safe, welcoming environment. Her hope is to instill courage, joy, and resilience in her students while also ensuring they are garnering the skills they need to access a quality education. Ms. Curtiss is looking forward to a rewarding school year!
